Clinical Observation on Chemical and Drug Poisonings in Infants and Children

Abstract
The clinical observation on 91 children, who had been treated acute chemical and drug poisonings at St. Mary¢¥s Hospital from Jan. 1966 to Sept. 1968, was attempted.
1) The frequency of poisonings in male was higher than in female. and _55 cases out of 91(60.4%)
were male children.
2) In age distribution of poisoned children, 58 cases out of 91(63.7%). were below 5 years of age and onetwo age group showed the highest incidence (27.4%).
3) There was no definite seasonal .difference in frequency of poisoning, but it seemed to be more
prevalent in summer.
4) The poisonous agents were listed on Table 4, above..all, parathion,. carbon monoxide and tranquilizers were the frequent causative agents and the incidences: were, 26.4%, 13.2% and 10% respectively.
5) In 22 cases of parathion poisoning, 10 of them poisoned by use the room where parathion had been sprayed as an. insecticide, and 11 cases were caused by.mistaking as a,. juice due to the unsuitable . storage of parathion at living room.
